We got pizza for dinner tonight. That seemed normal. And it (picking up the pizza) was a smooth transaction in terms of sanitation because: 1. there was no door, thus no doorknob 2. the cashier held up the chip reader, and we never touched the same item. Other than touching the pizza box, it was as clean as possible.
The numbers are not great. After the midweek good vibes, the Covid-19 peak isn’t expected now until mid to late May, which is 6-8 weeks from now.
New York is already near capacity at some hospitals in the city. New Orleans seems to be on the same path. Ohio isn’t that bad yet, but today they predicted at our peak, there will be multiple thousands of cases per day.
I guess that’s ok to assume if testing is widespread; we could already have thousands of people carrying the virus who are either asymptotic or showing mild symptoms. While I don’t have a fever or dry cough, I’ve had what seems to be my annual sinus congestion for the last couple of weeks; hopefully I’m not already a carrier.
But even if I am, I’m isolated as much as possible, other than my immediate family. I’m still worried that people are out and about too much, although Ohio is one of the better states at physical distancing, according to cell phone location data. But even this week, some neighbor kids from different households were playing together, while their parents are still working out of the home; this seems like the integration we should be avoiding.
Tonight was our weekly family movie night. Midway through the movie, my four year old climbed up into my lap because she “wanted to cuddle”. I just want to make sure we and others around us are doing everything we can, because I don’t want those sort of family times to have to stop for any reason, for us or anyone else.
I want to be able to look back and know that I did as much as I could to keep my family same. I hope I am.
